About

Us

Grandfather Farms is situated adjacent to Seven Devils and conveniently located halfway between Boone and Banner Elk. Shopping and dining opportunities are as near as just down the street, to a few miles up the hill or down to Foscoe or over to Banner Elk.

With view lots that look across highway 105 to the profile of Grandfather Mountain and our southeast exposure, the community offers the best of winter and summer views and climates.

Brief History

The Grandfather Farms Subdivision was developed in the 1970s and has been governed by a Property Owners Association since 1994 when the number of property owners reached the minimum number required to have owners and residents take over the management of the neighborhood's needs and obtain services via annual dues or special assessments. The current annual dues are $900 dollars, as of 2023. Additionally, there are annual dues to cover the costs of operating and maintaining the well association to which a property is connected, as applicable. There are four property owners well associations in the community, and the annual dues will vary, as agreed upon by the members of the individual well associations.

The Area

Grandfather Farms community is virtually right next door to the town of Seven Devils, and just down the hill from shopping and restaurants at historic Tynecastle.

We are about 15 minutes to downtown Boone to the north, or to Banner Elk to the south. Linville and the Linville Gorge are also nearby. The Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain State Park, hiking trails and the resort area of Blowing Rock are also all within a 30 minute drive.

Life

In the summer, daytime temperatures seldom exceed the mid-80s. In the winter, while there can be a few nights that reach zero degrees, most days are cold enough to dress the ski slopes but warm enough to make outdoor ventures pleasant.

All year long there are events and activities. With Appalachian State University in Boone and Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, there are also ample programs involving the arts, culture, and music. In the summer and fall, there are many outdoor fairs and festivals, and in the winter, many outdoor and indoor activities.
